Programme Leader and the PGCAP Team
The Programme Leader is the person responsible to oversee all the
teaching, assessment and support of learning on the PGCAP. The Programme Leader works with the programme tutor team to design and
manage the learning sessions, to ensure assessment schedules are agreed and
published, and to provide programme information. You will first encounter the Programme
Leader at induction, ie at the beginning of your studies on
the PGCAP. The Programme Leader is normally
the person to contact to discuss major issues to do with the PGCAP and/or your
own ability to succeed on the course.
The Personal Tutor
You will be assigned a personal tutor from the programme team, at the
beginning of your participation on the PGCAP programme.
You will have the same personal tutor for the duration of your involvement in
the programme. The Personal Tutor role includes:
· Being your official ‘first point of contact’ in relation to the
programme, providing a personal contact who can get to know you and support you
throughout
· Providing advice, support and general guidance on academic and
non-academic issues
· Recognising when assistance required is beyond the competence or
responsibility of the personal tutor
· Signposting to relevant sources of information, advice and guidance,
where possible
You are encouraged to meet your personal tutor at
least once a semester, but you should not hesitate to consult your personal
tutor, should the need arise, at any time. You will be supported by the module
leaders or tutors on academic issues.
The Module Leader
Module leaders are responsible for designing the
teaching and learning activities for modules, and for designing and overseeing
the module assessment(s). You should
contact module leaders if you need advice or clarification on any aspect relating
to the module including eg on module resources, or assessment(s). You should inform the Module Leaders if you
are unable to attend any specific face-to-face session or scheduled online
activity such as a webinar. Please contact the Module Leader for advice if you
have difficulties in meeting any assessment deadline.
The Mentor
Your mentor will normally be a colleague located
within your Department or area of professional practice. The person acting as
your mentor will be determined between you, your Line Manager and/or the Head
of Department or the lead in your professional area. Mentor support is an integral
part of the PGCAP Programme and your mentor is likely to:
- Provide practical information and guidance on your Department, Faculty, the institution and your academic role
- Discuss the teaching and learning policies, strategies and practices (both formal and informal) of your Department, Faculty and/or the institution
- Participate in the observations of teaching processes on the core module (LTHE)
- Provide or direct you to teaching materials and other relevant resources
- Help you to link to people, services, resources related to your HE academic professional role
- Help you to reflect on the links between your study and the UK Professional Standards Framework (UK PSF)
The External Examiner
It is important the assessment processes used on
the PGCAP and at UCS are of an appropriate standard and quality as compared to
other cognate Higher Education provision.
In order to assure this is the case, the PGCAP has an External Examiner:
an appropriately qualified and experienced academic from another UK institution
who reviews participant assessment and the decisions made at Assessment board
and completes an annual report on their findings. These reports are available to view in the
LearnUCS area for the PGCAP. External Examiners are normally appointed for a
four year period.
